Latest Chapter News Friday, July 21, 2006 The month of July is certainly going out with a big bang for the Bay Area Chapter. As you can see by the calendar listings here, we've got a lot of great events coming up in the next couple of weeks. Hope you can make some or all of them! Also, we can't forget that we're now only 55 days from the start of the "Best Buck in the Bay." As you can imagine, pulling an event like this together requires a good number of committed volunteers, but the volunteering doesn't just stop when the rodeo starts--we need volunteers in short shifts all weekend long to keep things running smoothly. Please take a moment to think about when/where you can best help out and visit our Volunteer Page to let us know you're areas of interest (http://bayarearodeo.com/Rodeo2006/BB06-volunteers.html). Now... on with all the news... Buckin' the Heart... of the Castro - July 26th The Castro's new monthly country party is back next Wednesday, July 26th at Harvey's (Castro & 18th St. - SF) from 8:00 pm - Midnight. Gloria Whole, Miss Bay Area Rodeo 2006, hosts and some of the very best entertainers in the city will perform country all night long. Count on some great raffle prizes and more surprises on this fun night. All proceeds benefit Under One Roof. http://www.bayarearodeo.com/Events/buckintheheart.html Buckin' Alley Dance - July 29th Did you happen to make it out for our Winter Ball last January or the Buckin' Taxes dance in April? If you did, you already know how great these first two quarterly events were. If you didn't, not to worry... we're doing it again. On Saturday, July 29th (the night before the Dore Alley Street Fair) we bring you "Buckin' Alley"--an evening of non-stop country-western dancing for the LGBT community. It all gets started at 8:00 pm at the Cathedral Hill Hotel (1101 Van Ness Ave) in San Francisco with the party continuing until at least 1:00 am. Admission is $10 (free admission for new and existing GSGRA members). There's already a lot of buzz around this event... you absolutely don't want to miss it! For more information, visit http://www.bayarearodeo.com/Events/buckinalley.html "Up Your Alley" Street Fair - July 30th On Sunday, July 30th summer in the city gets a whole lot hotter with the ever-popular "Up Your Alley" street fair. The Bay Area Chapter is thrilled to once again be hosting a beverage booth at the fair. If you've helped out in the booth before, you already know how much fun it really is. If you haven't yet, perhaps this is your weekend to find out first hand. Volunteers are needed for several short shifts throughout the day. Please contact our Fundraising Coordinator by emailing fundraising@bayarearodeo.com today to learn more. Country Karaoke - August 9th The Mint (1942 Market St @ Duboce) is San Francisco's premier karaoke lounge and they're thrilled to be hosting a special night of karoke for all us cowboys and cowgirls. It kicks off at 8:00 pm and we'll keep the party going until well past 11:00 pm. Throw on your cowboy hat, warm up those pipes, and come hit the karoke stage with us. Or kick back with a nice tall drink and enjoy watching all of those that do. Rough Stock Rodeo School - August 19th Our Spring rodeo school was such a success, we're doing it all again--right in time to prepare yourself for competing in this year's Best Buck in the Bay. The school will be held on Saturday, August 19th in Morgan Hill and features classes taught by two professional cowboys--Bill Lyle and Dan Bohan. Courses in Bull Riding, Steer Riding, and Chute Dogging are $80 and feature a full day of instruction plus many goes with the animals. Bronc Riding courses are available to a limited number of students for $100. For those not riding, there is also a "ground school" available. GSGRA members receive a $15 discount off any course. It's may be hard to believe, but the rodeo production team has just entered into the "home stretch" leading up to this year's Best Buck in the Bay. In less than two months from today we will all be enjoying some hot rodeo action and all the festivities that comprise our "rodeo weekend." Over the next several weeks you'll be seeing a lot of promotion of the rodeo and a whole flurry of activity as we work through all the final details of everything. All of this, of course, can't happen without the concerted efforts of a whole lot of great volunteers. If you're not involved in the production planning already, now is the perfect time to jump in and lend a hand.
