Welcoming Our New Royalty

This past Sunday, we held our Rodeo Royalty pageant at Marlena's in San Francisco. It was a fantastic evening of entertainment and fun. Thank you to Winnie and Patty for all wonderful emcee work, and all of our entertainers for the many fabulous numbers you brought to the stage. Thanks also to Travis for all your coordination and to Allen, Anita, and Chika for being such great judges. Gloria Whole, our Miss Bay Area Rodeo 2006 delighted everyone with two great step down numbers, and in the midst of it all, we had our competition for the new royalty team. Congratulations to CoCo for winning the title of Ms. Bay Area Rodeo 2007! We look forward to all you have in store in the coming year... we know you'll do the chapter proud.

Buckin' Spring - This Friday! - May 4th

It's time again for another great quarterly dance. And this time around we're trying something new. The dance will be held on Friday, May 4th (yes FRIDAY) at the Cathedral Hill Hotel (1101 Van Ness Ave., SF). It starts at 8 pm and we'll all be dancing well past Midnight. Admission will be $10, but as always if you're a member of GSGRA or become one that night, you get in free.

Chapter Meeting - May 8th

We hope you can make our next chapter meeting on Tuesday, April 10th starting at 7:30 pm. It's a very important one for the chapter as we'll be taking up an in depth conversation on who we are as a chapter, what our vision is for the future of this organization, and what kind of changes may be needed to move us toward realizing that vision. We know that all members have some great insight on what we're doing right, what we need to more of, and what needs to change. Please consider being a part of this open conversation. Your participation is highly valued!

The LGBT Center
Market at Octavia - San Francisco
Meeting in Room #305
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

If you're arriving early, look for other members in the Three Dollar Bill cafe on the ground floor where you can grab a tasty meal, have a coffee or tea, or take advantage of the free wireless internet access.

Buckin' Idol - Round #2 - May 16th

Last month we kicked off a new monthly singing competition called "Buckin' Idol" where anyone can compete for wonderful prizes and a chance to be part of the finals round in September. The overall winner of the competition will be a featured performer at this year's Best Buck in the Bay (Sep 14-16).

Conrgatulations to the winner from Round #1, Rob Schleihauf from Pacifica. You knocked out a great song and really impressed our judges. It was a fun night with a number of great performances from the contestants... several of whom will certainly be back to compete again for a chance in the finals.

Join us for round two at The Mint Karaoke Lounge (Market @ Duboce) in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 16th. Interested contestants can sign up starting at 7:30 pm and the competition will begin at 8:30 pm. There's a 10 contestant limit each month, so be sure get there early to sign up.

For complete rules and more information, visit the Buckin' Idol page on our website.

Spotlighting Our Contestants

We're working on the creation of a new Contestants section on our website. The idea is simple--create a presence on our site to announce accomplishments at IGRA rodeos of our Bay Area contestants throughout the year. Additionally, over time, we hope to start adding profiles and really celebrating all that our contestants do.

To pull this off, we need to hear regularly from all of you who compete in the arena. What rodeos are you planning on attending? What are you competing in? Have you won any ribbons or buckles that we should all know about? Have you achieved a "first" in the arena or do you have another good rodeo story to share? Just drop a note at anytime to news@bayarearodeo.com and we'll get it into the Contestant news page.

Do You Have News? Comments? Suggestions?

The Bay Area Chapter board very much wants to hear from you. It is through your input that we can continue to make this organization better. Do you have news about upcoming events we should be letting everyone know about? Do you have comments or suggestions for future chapter events? Do you have feedback on what we're doing well, what we could do better, and perhaps what we're currently doing wrong? Don't hesitate to contact any of us by emailing board@bayarearodeo.com.
